Du Fay, Charles (1698-1739)

French physicist who studied electricity, Eric Weisstein's World of Physics discovered that there were two varieties or "fluids" of electricity, Eric Weisstein's World of Physics vitreous and resinous, which repelled other bodies containing the same type of electricity and attracted those containing the opposite. He found you could electrify any body except metals or fluids by rubbing. His observations were performed with the aid of an electroscope. Eric Weisstein's World of Physics
